Built in 1427 and proud to be the oldest building in Winchester, the Old Rectory thrives on its character and heritage. Far from being a museum piece, it is still a working set-up, complete with oak beams and inglenook fireplaces aplenty and new owners have given the place a complete face lift.
Head Chef Damian Brown, formerly head chef at Fortnum & Mason, pulls in fresh ingredients and quality local produce to create simple British classics. Open the slate with twice baked local rosary goats cheese souffle with spiced pear chutney or perhaps Dorset crab mayonnaise with avocado and a pink grapefruit dressing before leading on to rump of Hampshire lamb with fondant potato, broad bean puree, fresh peas and shoots or home made 'Open Pasta' with summer vegetables and chervil cream. Puddings such as gooseberry & elderflower fool are supported by a fine selection of English cheeses.
An exciting wine list promises a low fixed mark up and all wines are available to take away at retail price.
