Review on Harbourmaster Hotel
The Harbourmaster Hotel is a revitalised Grade II-listed Georgian building, a striking landmark on Aberaeron quayside, offering decent accommodation and fine food with a patriotic flavour.
Native ingredients are put at the top of the agenda and it's no surprise that menus are written in Welsh as well as English. The kitchen majors in seafood, so expect anything from Cardigan Bay crab risotto to fillet of plaice with red pepper and fennel roast potatoes or grilled Aberaeron mackerel (served with marinated cucumber and mustard crème fraîche).
Elsewhere, warm Pant Mawr goats' cheese appears with roasted figs, maple-glazed rack of Ystwyth Valley lamb is accompanied by rosemary potatoes and Madeira sauce, and Welsh Black beef is a fixture. Desserts are mostly homespun ideas like lavender crème brûlée with honey ice cream or rhubarb crumble - although pomegranate and summer fruits jelly was a refreshing hit for one Mobile Food Guide reporter.
The harbour facing bar provides food and drink in casual, contemporary surroundings.
