Review on Seafood & Grill atThe Brudenell Hotel
A much-loved seaside retreat for visitors to Suffolk's east coast and devotees of the Aldeburgh festival, the Brudenell is just a pebble's throw from the beach. Most rooms have stupendous views, either of the sea or of the River Alde and the surrounding marshes.
The split-level refurbished restaurant now called the Seafood & Grill has a contemporary décor decked out in a palette of vibrant red and blue, smart black chairs are set against wood tables on modern wood flooring and there is a delightful sea-facing terrace to take in the panoramic vistas.
Heading the kitchen is Tyler Torrance and seafood cookery is the business of the day, although carnivores and vegetarians are catered for as well in a menu that focuses on fresh fish from sustainable sources and free-range meats that are delivered daily. On offer you could enjoy smoked East coast mackerel pate paired with beetroot relish and melba toast, followed by a main course of grilled fillet of sea bass, sautéed potatoes, green beans, olives, sun blushed tomatoes and herb or for meat lovers there's Dingley Dell pork cutlet, pommes Anna, sage and onion chou farci. Desserts offer a trip down memory lane with a sherry trifle or a croissant bread and butter pudding served with home made custard.
There's a very impressive wine list to complement the food from all the major wine growing vineyards around the globe, together with a unique Collector's List of wines that have been bought by the owner and carefully cellared.
