Review on Marco Pierre White London Steakhouse Co.
A new collaboration between Marco Pierre White and his old chum James Robertson, the Marco Pierre White London Steakhouse Co in Aldgate comes in on the back of Lanes - a buzzy lunchtime destination and after-work crowd-puller, as well as a destination dining room. The move to MPW Steakhouse & Grill sees a shift in direction, a new chef and a new menu, but the changeover has been seamless.
The discreet entrance off Bishopsgate leads into a light and stylish bar and dining room, where the menu is dominated by Brit classics and aged, grass-fed steaks courtesy of Donald Russell. The menu kicks off with classic starters ranging from potted duck and Morecambe Bay shrimps to kipper pâté with whisky and Melba toast, before heading into the realms of spatchcock chicken with chipolatas, veal paillard and roast rib of beef with all the accoutrements.
There are also English special main courses and puds each day: Tuesday might bring shepherd's pie followed by Cambridge burnt cream, say. The carefully sourced wine list favours Europe, although the New World isn't neglected.
