Review on Langdale Hotel & Country Club, Stove Bar & Restaurant
Comprising 350 acres of prime Lakeland countryside, the Langdale Estate is a natural woodland haven complete with streams and tarns, massive millstones and other reminders of the region's Victorian gunpowder works. There's also an impressive choice of accommodation, from timeshare properties and self-catering apartments to exclusive rooms in the Langdale Hotel itself.
Visitors are also offered ample choice when it comes to eating and drinking, with two restaurants, bars and Wainwright's Inn (named in honour of the doyen of Lakeland walks). Pride of place goes to the Stove Bar & Restaurant, an all day affair that caters for all tastes and dining options.
The kitchen makes good use of seasonal Lakeland produce for a varied menu of modern British dishes, alongside steaks from the Joster Grill, pasta and pizza. From the dinner menu you could start with crab tian, wasabi and cucumber gazpacho or braised pig cheek, pearl barley risotto, crispy sage and smoked brie. Main courses usher in rump of lamb, dauphinoise potatoes, spring vegetables and mint or from the sea, traditional beer battered fish and chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce. When it comes to desserts you might see Black Forest gateau, chocolate and cherry sorbet or a traditional sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream.
