Review on The Monsal Head Hotel, Longstone Restaurant
A godsend for tourists, walkers and climbers exploring the Peak District, this privately owned hotel overlooks the beautiful Monsal Dale and is within striking distance of Bakewell, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
The Longstone Restaurant offers a menu that globetrots for the likes of fajitas, char-grilled squid with harissa salsa and Thai-spiced duck spring rolls with sweet chilli dip. Nearer to home you might also encounter twice-baked goats' cheese soufflé with pecan pesto, chicken breast filled with Hartington Stilton and cream sauce, and gammon, leek and potato pie – not forgetting sticky toffee pudding to finish.
The hotel also has its own real ale bar called The Stables, housed – of course – in the original stable block. As well as cask brews, it stocks genuine German bottled 'biers' and a decent choice of wine; to go with your chosen tipple is an all-day menu of seasonal dishes.
