Review on The Square at The Rutland Arms Hotel
Built in 1804 on the site of an old coaching inn, the Rutland Arms stands proud in Bakewell’s market square and is very much a local landmark. Formal meals are served in the traditionally appointed Square Restaurant, which boasts a polished granite fireplace and myriad chiming clocks.
First-class ingredients are sourced locally and they are passionate about supporting local growers and suppliers, so you can be assured that their food will be incredibly fresh. You might begin with game terrine and homemade plum chutney or salmon and ginger fishcakes before sampling pork fillet stuffed with garlic mushrooms on spring onion mash or red snapper with saffron risotto and white wine sauce.
Legend has it that the nationally renowned Bakewell pudding (aka. tart) was ‘invented’ here as a result of a mistake in the kitchen, and it’s still on the menu â€" served with clotted cream and fresh berry compote. More casual food is also on offer in the Rutland Lounge.
