Review on Brocka-on-the-Water Restaurant
A small house with a big culinary reputation, Brocka is a charming family home that just happens to be a gem of a restaurant. It's hidden away up a country lane close to the water on the Lough Derg Drive, with a productive garden backing onto the place.
The owners have added a high-ceilinged conservatory extension to cope with their increasing number of fans, but the mood remains unashamedly domestic. Visitors come here for immediate flavours, unadulterated freshness and pure simplicity. Menus follow the seasons, much depends on the garden, and local supplies are at the heart of things. Pea and spinach soup, Cooleeney cheese croquettes with homemade chutney, and herb-crusted pork with plums and cranberries are the kind of dishes to expect. Note: the restaurant doesn't take credit cards and opening times may be restricted out of season.
