Review on Central Wine Bar
'A hidden treasure in Ballycastle,' according to one Mobile Food Guide user, the Central Bar can trace its history back to 1861, although it's been extended and refurbished over the years. Current hosts the McHenry family have turned it into an award-winning complex incorporating a bar, nightclub and fully blown restaurant - plus a private beer garden for alfresco meals.
For those wanting a taste of casual fine dining should head upstairs to the main dining room, where the walls are lined with prints and photos of rock artists. The menu is a globetrotting affair that includes a host of starters ranging from warm chicken and black pudding salad to duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce. Mains are equally eclectic, taking in everything from Irish lamb shank on colcannon or roulade of Donegal cod with lemon butter sauce to salmon on warm niçoise salad or Cajun vegetable penne pasta. Live music is regular night-time attraction.
