Review on Hanora's Cottage
This delightful stone cottage was built in 1891 for the mason who worked on the nearby village church. Since then it has been passed down through the generations and is now run as a successful restaurant-with-rooms in the heart of the Nire Valley.
Several members of the Wall family are currently in residence, and they have become renowned for their warm hospitality, luxurious accommodation and gargantuan breakfast buffets. Dinner is served in a smart, split-level room overlooking the garden, and it's invariably an occasion to remember. Eion and Judith Wall share the duties at the stove and deliver stylish, expertly cooked food based on supplies from small local producers.
After pre-prandial drinks you might kick off with lamb's kidneys on toasted brioche with grain mustard cream before oven-baked fillet of turbot with Knockamore farmhouse Cheddar and tomato crust or roast rack of lamb with mint hollandaise. Desserts range from lemon tart to sloe gin ice cream and the wine list is an interesting collection topped up with a few organic bottles.
