Review on The Cock O' Barton
The legendary Cock O'Barton has been welcoming travellers since the fourteenth century and has recently taken on a new lease of life, thanks to the accomplished kitchen team that is sending out such well crafted dishes.
Six vast 'platters' hold centre stage and they range from a 'retro pub' version to celebrations of salmon and asparagus. Elsewhere, there is a cornucopia of regional delights, from pan-fried Irish Sea plaice with crispy Morecambe Bay shrimps, nut brown butter and wilted spinach to grilled Barnsley chop with big chips or an Anglo-Indian curry based on Bailey's Home Farm chicken. Desserts are mostly European classics ranging from strawberry mille-feuille with Cheshire Farm ice cream to lavender crème brûlée.
Backing up the food is an impressive 100-strong wine list as well as a fine collection of beers from near and far (most dishes on the menu are flagged with a recommended tipple, by the glass or bottle).
There's 14 stylish bedrooms should you wish to extend your stay and explore the lovely Cheshire countryside.
