Review on The Cock O' Barton

The legendary Cock O'Barton has been welcoming travellers since the fourteenth century and has recently taken on a new lease of life, thanks to the accomplished kitchen team that is sending out such well crafted dishes.

Six vast 'platters' hold centre stage and they range from a 'retro pub' version to celebrations of salmon and asparagus. Elsewhere, there is a cornucopia of regional delights, from pan-fried Irish Sea plaice with crispy Morecambe Bay shrimps, nut brown butter and wilted spinach to grilled Barnsley chop with big chips or an Anglo-Indian curry based on Bailey's Home Farm chicken. Desserts are mostly European classics ranging from strawberry mille-feuille with Cheshire Farm ice cream to lavender crème brûlée.

Backing up the food is an impressive 100-strong wine list as well as a fine collection of beers from near and far (most dishes on the menu are flagged with a recommended tipple, by the glass or bottle).

There's 14 stylish bedrooms should you wish to extend your stay and explore the lovely Cheshire countryside.

    Disappointed

Back to The Cob, this time for our wedding anniversary. Always had a good meal , arrived at 5.30pm great meet and greet. Service all the way through. However meal this time was disappointing. Starter average for my Wife Ham Hock with Wardorf Salad, my starter pate was good and what was expected. Main courses of concern Roast Beef, Seasonal Vegetables swimming in too much jus. Best part was the roast potato. My Wife had the Pork which was just a "Clump of Pork"
Was it the end of the Sunday Lunch Period, who knows. Not value for money. If and when we return it will be for the evening meal which has always been excellent or to local carveries which are super value for money.
