Pre-show deals attract culture vultures to this stylish ground-floor restaurant and bar directly opposite Bath's Theatre Royal in the heart of the city. Dark polished wood floors and soft lights create just the right mood for cooking with a strong French accent and a few twists along the way.
The regularly changing menu is bolstered by a board of specials (especially fish). You might begin with smoked duck breast on fennel and orange salad or sauté chicken livers with creamy risotto and Madeira sauce, before moving on to loin of venison with buttered Savoy cabbage, blueberry and port sauce or pan-fried aged sirloin steak with tiger prawns, crab, tarragon and mustard sauce. For dessert, consider caramelised pear tarte Tatin or dark chocolate and Griottine cherry sponge with Kirsch syrup. The well-stocked wine cellar has a tempting mix of bottles from Europe and the New World.
