Review on Sotto Sotto
Sotto Sotto is an Italian restaurant that has been wowing diners with its food, situated just a few steps away from the famous Roman Baths. In a more romantic vein, it's not unlike the cellars beneath a French château, with stone floors, barrel-vaulted ceilings and rough-hewn brick walls. The venue is very atmospheric and the contemporary design is aesthetically very pleasing to the eye.
The kitchen sources the finest products from Italy alongside locally sourced fresh vegetables, seafood and meat for its traditional Italian dishes where the quality of the ingredients shine through. Open with bruschetta veneziana, fresh chicken liver ragu' on rustic Tuscan bread or carpaccio di tonno, thinly sliced fresh tuna with shaved fennel, rucola and drizzled with Sotto Sotto citrus dressing. Main courses take in vitello alla sorrentina, tender veal topped with aubergine, parma ham and mozzarella in a delicate white wine sauce or salmone alla mostarda, grilled fresh salmon with whole grain mustard and shallots in a creamy brandy sauce. The menu also features pasta and salad dishes as well as pizza options.
The food is supported by a carefully chosen, fairly priced wine list that focuses on Italy, with several options available by the glass. Service is delightful and diners are made to feel very welcome in Sotto Sotto.
