Review on Fox & Hounds
A much-needed oasis in a rather bleak gastro-pub desert, this impressive street-corner hostelry does good business in the hinterland between Battersea and Clapham Junction. The lovely old Victorian building was given a revamp a few years back and it's now part of a stable that includes the Atlas and the Cumberland Arms.
Ornate pillars, rough wood floors and intricately designed mirrors provide an atmospheric backdrop for food with Mediterranean overtones. The open-plan kitchen delivers waves of fashionable dishes including Jerusalem artichoke soup with olive oil and thyme, braised cod fillet with Savoy cabbage and sweet onions, and grilled Italian sausages with braised borlotti beans and chilli jam, with desserts like warm pear and hazelnut tart to round things off. A dozen wines by the glass top the short, modern list.
