Review on Osteria Antica Bologna
A wooden frontage complete with wine barrels sets the rustic tone in this neighbourhood Italian restaurant, which is atmospherically fitted out with dark wood chairs and tables and a 'trompe l'oeil' mural depicting an ancient Bologna street scene.
The menu runs with the seasons and it generally features a number of unusual specialities from Bologna and its environs. There are plentiful assaggi 'to share or savour alone' (crabmeat salad with prawns and green apple, carpaccio of bison with rocket and Pecorino, for example), some unusual handmade pasta (paprika tagilioni with octopus and smoked swordfish, pumpkin and Ricotta gnocchi) plus authentic regional dishes such as marinated venison and wild boar stew with Gorgonzola soft polenta or grilled sea bass with fennel and citrus salad. Desserts promise torta di cioccolato with walnuts, chestnut mousse, orange and yoghurt bavarese and - of course - tiramisů. The all-Italian wine list offers good value and the prospect of satisfying drinking.
