Review on Nipa Thai
Situated on the first floor of the towering high-rise the London Lancaster Hotel, Nipa is faithfully modelled on its sister establishment, the Landmark Bangkok. The interior has been opulently decorated in authentic style with teak panelling and native artefacts; staff are dressed in traditional silk costumes, music tinkles in the background and the calm dining room also boasts great views over Hyde Park from its picture windows.
Head Chef Sanguan Parr has worked at the restaurant for 16 years and she showcases classics from the Northern region of Thailand. Items to look for include Thai omelette with sliced turnip, red chilli and basil, deep-fried marinated chicken in pandanus leaves, stir-fried scallops with green asparagus, and fried sole in green curry. As a finale, try 'tab tim krob' (a traditional dessert of water chestnuts coated with tapioca in coconut milk and syrup). The four-course 'Khantoke' lunch menu is excellent value.
