Review on Eipic
Ireland’s premier Chef Michael Dean, who held a Michelin star for thirteen years has transformed his eponymous restaurant on the corner of Howard Street in Belfast into three restaurants, Eipic, Love Fish and Meat Locker. Eipic is the fine dining restaurant of the three and is an overtly swish and sleek place, decked out in a sophisticated palette of grey and cream with black accents. Smart, comfortable upholstered chairs are set against candlelit tables laid with crisp white napery and silverware.
Dean has appointed Alex Greene to lead the kitchen who joined Deanes in 2007, having previously graced the kitchens of Petrus by Gordon Ramsay, Claridge's and Cliff House in Ardmore. Alex offers a concise tasting menu which draws inspiration from top-quality raw materials sourced from hand picked suppliers. The menu encompasses artistically displayed dishes in the shape of duck yolk, swede and mushroom ketchup; cured salmon beetroot and dill; halibut, broccoli, roasted bone; pigeon, carrot and treacle, venison, baked celeriac and pear. To close the show there's chocolate, Clementine and praline or cheese.
The wine list is a broad slate of vintage French classics tempered with youthful stuff from the rest of Europe and the New World. The restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in the 2016 edition of the Guide and is also the recipient of three rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide.
