Review on James Street South Restaurant
Crowned Readers restaurant of the year for Northern Ireland by Waitrose Good Food Guide 2015, Niall and Joanne McKenna’s establishment is a stylish addition to the Belfast scene, right in the centre of the city. Displays of abstract artwork add a splash of colour to the pure white dining room and large windows allow the daylight to flood in.
Neil McKenna has appointed David Gillmore to head the kitchen and he showcases classic cuisine, alongside signature dishes using the very best of local ingredients sourced from trusted suppliers. Kick off with Hannan's cured ox cheek, horseradish and pickled shallots before a main course of John Dory, squid and chorizo bolognese and cauliflower or carnivores will enjoy the fillet of beef, smoked Abernethy butter potato, and mushrooms. Desserts offer an enticing mix of flavours witness vanilla pannacotta, blood orange and thyme or white chocolate cream, rhubarb and tarragon.
The global wine list has plenty of good bottles at fair prices.
