Review on Crown and Anchor Hotel
Visitors making the modern-day pilgrimage to Holy Island (aka. Lindisfarne) with its Tudor castle and ruined priory often use this popular bar/restaurant-with-rooms on the edge of the village as a refuelling point or stopover. You can see most of the sights from the garden.
Blackboards dotted around the place list wines and specials of the day. Lunches are simple and straightforward, ranging from big ciabatta rolls to fresh crab, rump steak with mushrooms and onions or goujons of Tweed salmon.
In the evening, expect more elaborate ideas including lobster and mussel bisque, terrine of veal sweetbreads, corn-fed chicken filled with Mozzarella and basil or local venison casseroled with redcurrants, followed by desserts such as raspberry crème brûlée or passion fruit cheesecake.
