Review on Carters of Moseley
Carters is a smart modern British restaurant located amongst a small parade of shops in residential Moseley, just 2 miles outside the city centre of Birmingham. The long dining room with modern wood flooring has a sleek décor, with black leather banquettes and dark wood tables set against warm peach walls and an open-plan kitchen at the back of the restaurant.
Carters of Moseley is owned by Brad Carter who mans the stoves and Holly Jackson who looks after front of house. On the food front local produce is woven throughout the innovative menu and even lists its suppliers on their website. Showcasing modern British dishes you might start with hand-dived scallop, mackerel tartare, avocado and radishes or wild pigeon, sweetcorn and bacon popcorn, followed by main courses of Yorkshire grouse, sloe berry jam and bread sauce or Cornish skate, truffled lettuce, braised chicken, girolles, and chicken gravy. Desserts bring on board delights like toasted marshmallow, poached apples, custard and apple pie ice cream or a traditional sticky toffee pudding served with vanilla ice cream.
There is a wall of fine international wines, featuring a collection that offers something for everyone in terms of taste and budget. This is a perfect gem of a neighbourhood restaurant with a relaxed and welcoming ambience.
Carters of Moseley was crowned as the Readers restaurant of the year for the Midlands by Waitrose Good Food Guide 2015 and was also awarded a prestigious Michelin star in the 2016 edition of the Guide.
