Review on Roast
Roast restaurant is situated overlooking Borough Market, London's oldest food Market with views of St. Paul's Cathedral. When Iqbal Wahhab opened The Cinnamon Club it was a personal crusade to change the way we think about Indian cuisine. Now he's on a mission to do the same for British food: welcome to Roast.
Leading the kitchen is Stuart Cauldwell, who returns to the restaurant where he held the position of Senior Sous Chef for two years, having previously served as head chef at Gordon Ramsay's The Narrow and subsequently as Executive Sous Chef at The Wolseley. Fresh seasonal ingredients are judiciously deployed in his menus and he makes excellent use of foraged and wild ingredients in his dishes.
It goes almost goes without saying that proceedings kick off at breakfast time with 'The Full Borough', mulled seasonal fruits with Neals Yard yoghurt or boiled eggs with Marmite 'soldiers'. From then on it's a patriotic bonanza of ingredients, regional recipes and cheeky re-inventions.
