Review on WestBeach
A stunning location right on Bournemouth promenade, just a few yards from the pier, is just one of the attributes of this bright young venue, where beachfront decking and a buzzing minimalist dining room framed by large windows make the most of the views.
Seafood with a sharp modern edge is the main focus in the open-plan kitchen, and the choice of specials reflects the day's local catch, as well as deliveries from Brixham and Billingsgate. It's an ever-changing repertoire, but expect dishes like oven-baked John Dory stuffed with ginger, lime and coriander; roast cod with grilled aubergines and anchovy butter; and grilled gilthead bream with Asian-spiced mussels.
There's also plenty for meat-lovers in the shape of whole quail with beetroot crisps, garlic spinach and sweet potato dauphinoise or rump of lamb with mash and red wine jus, while desserts could feature warm tarte Tatin with caramel sauce or crème brûlée with raspberry and Bacardi compote.
Simpler dishes – including burgers, club sandwiches and so on – dominate the daytime menu, and there's live jazz on the first Thursday of each month.
