Great restaurant - but they need to be careful!

I went to Swadesh on Saturday night with my wife - I have been many times before - this is the first time for about three months.

There is always a warm and friendly greeting at Swadesh and you can't beat the location, set in the heart of sleepy Bowdon.
We arrived at 8.45pm on Saturday without a booking and after a quick scout round we were welcomed in, there were two or three 'couples' tables left. The staff were quick and attentive offering us a drink right away and telling us there may be a 20 minute wait for food as they were quite busy.

They brought popadums straight away with chutneys and our drinks. They used to serve crispy spiced popadums but the ones on this occasion were plain and not crisp - OK it was humid but they should always make fresh in a good Indian restaurant.

We ordered methi chicken (my favourite!) and spicy lamb with Bombay potatoes and crispy bhindi. The food came quicker than we thought - we hardly noticed the wait. The curries, potatoes and rice were exactly as we expected, top class and unlike anything I have tasted outside London. (Think Bombay Brasserie) The Bhindi however was reheated and had lost some of its previous delight - on previous occasions you could tell it was freshly fried (the bhindi is deep fried in pakora batter and is normally heavenly)

We finished and asked for the bill - I told the waiter taking my payment about the popadums and he quickly took the charge off.

Swadesh is a top class restaurant - typical curries at around £10.50 so its pretty reasonable too - they do however need to be careful as locals have high standards and there are restaurants popping up in the area quite frequently.
