Review on Branston Hall Hotel, Lakeside Restaurant
Built as a private stately home in 1885, Branston Hall was impressively restored and converted into a country house hotel in 1990. Set in 88 acres of wooded parkland and lakes it is an oasis of peace and tranquillity, just three miles to the south of Lincoln.
The elegant Lakeside Restaurant has its own breathtaking views and comes suitably attired with paintings, Italian-style chairs and chandeliers. It makes a luxurious setting for cooking with ambitious overtones and a high degree of skill. Orkney scallops are served as a starter with crab brandade and English pea salad, while fillet of Lincolnshire Red beef is accompanied by Scottish girolles, summer vegetables and Madeira sauce.
The kitchen also looks further afield for vegetable and dried fruit couscous, Singapore-style prawn and noodle broth, and a curry of aubergines, spinach and Chinese cabbage, while desserts return to base for roast peach Melba or blackberry tartlet with honey and lavender ice cream
