Review on Tudors Restaurant, Marygreen Manor
With an award winning restaurant (Tudors Restaurant) this impressive, half-timbered manor house, Marygreen Manor can trace its roots back to the sixteenth century and it still oozes history. Formal meals are served in the Tudors Restaurant, a fine high-beamed room that once did duty as the baronial hall. In contrast to the setting, the kitchen delivers exciting food that is firmly in touch with today's trends.
Diver scallops are paired with cauliflower, hazelnuts and Xeres vinegar dressing while fillet of halibut might be accompanied by almonds, baby vegetables, crushed potato and chervil. Meat fans could consider rack of English lamb with spring peas and mint or oriental-style roast duck breast with pumpkin, Asian greens, pickled shiitake mushrooms and teriyaki sauce. For dessert, expect fashionable ideas like pear soup with yoghurt pannacotta and pear tart as well as summer pudding with elderflowers and wild berries.
Afternoon tea and light snacks can be enjoyed by a blazing fire in the oak-panelled lounge or in the conservatory overlooking the manor's tranquil gardens.
