Review on The Bull Hotel
The Bull Hotel is a handsome Grade II listed coaching inn dating from the 17th century and is located in the centre of the main shopping street, in the Georgian market town of Bridport. Current owners Richard and Nikki who have relocated from London, have done a marvellous job of refurbishing this run down building to the marvellous boutique inn it is today, with a contemporary and chic décor whilst retaining its period charm. The main restaurant is relaxed with stripped wooden floors and custom made 50's inspired dining tables, simply laid with flickering candles displayed in wine bottles.
Head chef George Marsh, runs an industrious kitchen where they bake all their own bread, cakes and scones. Ingredients for the daily menu are sourced with great care locally and they are justifiably proud of The Bull's unique DNA. Look for starters of Devon red beef carpaccio with rocket salad, shallot dressing and smoked sea salt or pear and pecan salad with Dorset Blue Vinney. Moving on there's the Bull's fish pie served with buttered leeks and Gruyère glaze or from the grill, char-grilled homemade merguez style sausage, braised puy lentils piperade and feta cheese. There is an excellent wine list to compliment the dishes.
Out in the barn, complete with hay bales, you will find the converted Stable restaurant, a very informal affair with communal tables and a rustic atmosphere. The kitchen serves a range of home-made Dorset pizza and pies, together with a huge selection of unique ciders, from single variety specials to proper local brews, as well as wine by the carafe.
The Bull is a popular destination for walkers due to its proximity to the World Heritage Site of the impressive Jurassic Coast, and they can arrange tailor made, Walk Dorset breaks, which includes maps, packed lunches and a drop-off-collect service at the start and finish of your route.
