Review on Venissa

Venissa is a chic restaurant with rooms located in an old renovated manor house on the island of Mazzorbo, which is attached by a causeway to Burano Island, famous for its lacework and pretty coloured houses. The restaurant is in a tranquil setting surrounded by the walled vineyard and vegetable gardens, with views of the lagoon and the bell tower. The décor has a contemporary feel with a relaxed atmosphere, overlooked by the open kitchen.

Paola Budel is in charge of the kitchen that is receiving such rave reviews from restaurant critics and foodies everywhere. Paola learned her craft under Gualtiero Marchesi and Michael Roux at Le Gavroche in London as well as several stellar kitchens in Italy, Monaco, Tokyo and Hong Kong, before becoming executive chef at the Principe di Savoia in Milan. The menu is based on the raw products that are provided on a daily basis from the local area, creating a menu that could change daily to provide farm-to-table cuisine. Some of the produce is provided by their own vegetable garden and the rest comes from the nearby island of San Erasmo, as well as making the most of seafood from the Venice lagoon. Service is friendly and efficient together with a well thought out wine list to complement the dishes.
