Review on Best Western Priory Hotel, Garden Restaurant
Built on the site of a thirteenth-century priory - hence the name - this listed Georgian building is in a pretty spot on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds. These days, it's a self-proclaimed 'oasis of calm' popular with tourists and business people alike.
Formal meals are served in the stylish Garden Restaurant overlooking the hotel's landscaped grounds. Contemporary artwork and modern design features set the scene for food with a strong European slant. Menus follow the seasons, but you might begin with green pea soup, ham and mustard tortellini or breast of wood pigeon with oyster mushroom risotto before a duo of English lamb with sweet potato fondant or seared sea trout with with crab and sweetcorn croquette, tomato and rocket salad. For dessert, think glazed lemon tart or vanilla and honey cheesecake with poached rhubarb and ginger ice cream.
