Review on York & Albany

'A complete lifestyle experience with food at its heart', is the pitch behind this new venture from Gordon Ramsay and signals his first venture into the world of hotel management. The setting is a one-time Regency coaching inn on the fringes of Camden Town, overlooking Regent's Park, and it has been radically transformed into a mould-breaking combination of restaurant, bar and on-site deli with event spaces as well as ten chic bedrooms.

Seasonal European flavours dominate the menu, which might kick off with smoked duck salad, charred leeks and grated hazelnut or swordfish carpaccio with chilli and pickled fennel. Moving on, expect fish stew with piperade or Casterbridge rib-eye with wilted watercress and gratinated bone marrow, while desserts get comforting with the likes of steamed treacle pud or Manzanilla sherry trifle. Three-course lunches are financially tempting and there's an all-day tapas menu, too. Wines are a global selection, although France and Italy loom large.
