Review on Park House
Park House is a Grade I listed building in the city of Cardiff, set over four floors it incorporates an award winning cocktail bar, a wine & whiskey bar and members club. The restaurant has a traditional décor with original oak wood panelling, luxurious red drapes, period lampshades and a grand piano with a resident vocalist-pianist providing entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Head Chef Matt Waldron has created a delicious seasonal menu using the very best of local ingredients. Witness Pembrokeshire crab spring rolls with sweetcorn veloute or Charles Macleod black pudding, smoked mushy peas, onsen egg with foie gras sauce amongst the starters. Main courses take in Kelmscott pork platter, belly pork. fillet, crackling, black pudding and apple or tempura lobster dhal, ‘tarka dhal’ spiced lentils and carrot. Desserts are pretty assemblages in the shape of raspberry mille-feuille, raspberry cheesecake ice cream and raspberry jelly or smoked whisky chocolate tart, chocolate sorbet and chocolate tear drop.
The wine list is a majestic 350-bin tome with several options available by the glass including Champagnes and dessert wines. After your meal diners can relax in the adjacent Penderyn Welsh Whisky Room for a coffee or one of the extensive whiskies on offer. There is also a tasty cocktail menu downstairs in the chic Vanilla Rooms.
