Review on The Potted Pig
A short stroll from Cardiff Castle and the famous Millennium Stadium, it would be easy to miss The Potted Pig, located in a former bank vault. The atmospheric subterranean restaurant has been carefully renovated into a cosy venue, whilst retaining its exposed brick walls and vaulted ceiling.
As the name suggests a porcine theme runs through the British menu, which incorporates a few French and New York grill inspired influences. The kitchen runs in tandem with the seasons, making good use of locally sourced ingredients from independent suppliers.
Typical starters on the regularly changing menu could be potted pig served with toast and pickles, or its back to the nursery with egg and soldiers. Main courses take in pan fried wild Welsh sea bass with green beans and black pudding or slow roast Gloucester woodland pork belly, baked carrots and seasonal greens. There's also a great selection of steaks accompanied with either a choice of béarnaise or green sauce, and a whole roast suckling pig for a minimum of eight people needs to pre-ordered in advance. To finish expect desserts such as chocolate brownie with cherry vanilla cream or a vanilla panna cotta.
