Review on Ristorante Adriano
There's a 'real feel of being in Italy' about Franco Bertoletti's trattoria in the centre of Carlisle, according to one enthusiastic Mobile Food Guide reporter. It takes its name from the Emperor Hadrian ('Adriano'), and the restaurant's interior is appropriately themed: the Hadrian's Wall Heritage Site runs through the city on its way to Newcastle.
Legions of pizzas and pasta dishes make up the lion's share of the menu: the former are 12 inches across with toppings of every description, while the latter are based around penne, fusilli and linguine (plus gnocchi and tortelloni for good measure). A long list of hot and cold starters ranges from grilled sardines and crespelle filled with mushrooms to bresaola and insalata caprese, while desserts are creamy favourites like tiramusù, tartuffo and meringues with chocolate ice cream.
