Review on Y Polyn
Y Polyn is a delightful out-of-the-way whitewashed pub a few miles east of Carmarthen, owned by husband and wife team Mark and Sue Manson. Mark knows a thing or two about restaurants, he used to be an AA inspector and his wife an accomplished chef heads the kitchen.
Almost everything they serve is made on the premises and local ingredients are sourced with great care for their mix of earthy peasant-style dishes. Witness rabbit terrine with peach and apricot chutney, coq au vin, pork chops with pea mash, apple and cider sauce, plus a sprinkling of more modern specialities including grilled goats’ cheese with red onion bruschetta, escabèche of mackerel, and baked hake with pickled lemon, onion and bayleaf confit
To finish, you can relax in the comfort zone with the likes of apricot frangipane tart or chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce. The food is supported by an excellent-value wine list that provides quality without the pain of stratospheric prices.
