Review on Caraffini
‘Paolo Carrafini’s Italian brims with light and allegria, like lunch on a sunny day in Tuscany’: encouraging words from The Tatler about this cheery restaurant not far from Sloane Square. Personal, ebullient charm is a feature of Carrafini, and the dining room is stylishly festooned with luxuriant greenery, mirrors and prints on its pale yellow walls.
The lengthy menu covers most of the traditional bases, kicking off with grilled sardines and carpaccio of beef and ending up with classic desserts in the tiramisù mould. In between, expect a good showing of pasta (try ravioli of sea bass dressed with baby fennel, white wine and cherry tomatoes), risottos and main courses including escalope of veal in lemon sauce and grilled squid with chilli, garlic and rocket.
The all-Italian wine is a cracking selection of desirable bottles bolstered by a fistful of fabulous gems with three-figure price tags. A sister restaurant, VivEzza, opened recently at 101 Pimlico Road, London SW1.
