Review on Roly's Bistro
The term 'bistro' gives no hint of the sheer scale of this remarkable operation. Forget candles, gingham cloths and intimate tκtes-ΰ-tκtes Roly's has a kitchen brigade the size of two football teams, and it serves over 3,000 people every week as well as running an on-site bakery. This upbeat 200-seater is also one of the busiest venues of its kind in Dublin, yet as the Irish Times remarked 'the orchestration is so seamless'.
Dublin Bay prawn cocktail, fish pie, lamb's liver and bacon, and Knickerbocker Glory with peanut brittle strike a retro note, but there's a great deal more than nostalgia on offer here. The full menu also promises a real mixed bag of global flavours with the likes of Thai-spiced chicken wun tuns, goats' cheese fritters, an assiette of duck with ginger-scented broth and fillet of monkfish with a cassoulet of haricot beans and chorizo.
Pre-theatre meals (6.00-6.45pm, Mon-Thur) attract the crowds and the short, sensibly priced wine list offers around ten by the glass.
