Review on Fishers in the City
The city sibling of Fishers in Leith occupies premises right at the heart of Edinburgh's social scene, and is run along similar lines to its elder brother. It's relaxed and casual: there are no tablecloths or side plates on the tables, photographs cover the deep-ochre walls, and the menu is bolstered by blackboard specials reflecting the market.
Lovers of seafood handled the traditional way could open their account with Loch Tarbert King scallops, crispy shallot and chicory salad with roast garlic sabayon or maybe ragout of rabbit and barley paired with herb pappardelle pasta. Main courses usher in Aberdeenshire smoked haddock, creamed leek mash, poached egg, dill and grape must sauce or for the carnivores amongst you there's braised shoulder of lamb, cauliflower puree, potato and black pudding galette and sauce gribiche.
Desserts offers satisfaction with a delicious sticky toffee pudding accompanied with butterscotch sauce and cream or a crème brulee with shortbread. The wine list makes for enticing reading, with plenty of good stuff from around the globe and some additional fines wines, mainly from Burgundy.
