Review on Mussel Inn
A bustling, bistro-style venue devoted to the joys of mussels (and more besides), this pulsating venue is right in the heart of Edinburgh's main shopping district - and it pulls in the crowds. There are no fancy frills here, just honest natural food served with style and fizz.
Kilo pots of mussels every-which-way are the stars, and there are 'kiddie pots' for the youngsters: all that is needed is some crusty bread for dipping. Elsewhere, the kitchen is fond of oysters and scallops (try these char-grilled with garlic butter or seared and served with Parmesan mash, sun-blush tomato and basil oil); there are excellent grilled platters, too.
Kick off with a bowl of seafood chowder or deep-fried goats' cheese, and finish with coconut cheesecake or chocolate brownie. The wine list is tilted towards fish-friendly whites, with plenty of options by the glass. There's a branch at 157 Hope Street, Glasgow.
