Review on The Pompadour
Known locally as 'The Cally', this grand hotel is an Edinburgh institution, a famous landmark standing in the shadow of the castle just a few blocks from the Convention Centre. The elegant Pompadour Restaurant was first opened in 1925 and has breathtaking views from its arched windows. Following a a multi-million pound refurbishment the hotel is now part of the prestigious Waldorf Astoria group of hotels and the restaurant has been re-named The Pompadour.
The magnificent dining room is a fitting setting for acclaimed Head Chef Daniel Ashmore's 8-course or 4-course tasting menu, which emphasises impeccable, locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Typical offerings on the carte might include dishes along the lines of raw Scottish mackerel, yuzu koshu, Yorkshire forced rhubarb and ginger and from the land wood pigeon and black truffle Wellington, closing with blood orange parfait and Michel Cluizel chocolate.
To accompany the dining experience there's the option of a wine pairing package. The restaurant is the recipient of numerous awards including three prestigious AA Rosettes.
