Review on Voujon
Situated on Edinburgh's southside, close to the leafy expanses Holyrood Park, Voujon is the brainchild of seasoned local restaurateur Salim Miah. He has created a cool, sophisticated venue that eschews flock wallpaper and dim lights in favour of arrestingly contemporary décor, oak panels and extravagant floral displays; subdued ethnic music plays in the background.
The kitchen specialises in North Indian and Bengali-inspired dishes with a few additions from other parts of the Sub-continent. Classics such as rogan josh and lamb pasanda share the limelight with macher bora (mixed seafood kebabs), chilli garlic chicken, and a version of dupiaza using salmon. Two-courses lunches are a snip, and it's worth asking about the special evenings devoted to Indian home cooking (courtesy of the owner's wife and sister).
