Review on Gamba
A long-running haven for lovers of seafood, Gamba occupies a pleasingly relaxed, laid-back basement in the centre of the city. It’s a real breath of fresh sea air wafting through the increasingly hard-edged atmosphere of Glasgow’s new eateries.
The speciality fish soup is a near-legendary broth that might be given a tweak with dumplings or with baby crayfish tails and coriander. Alternatively, you could begin with sashimi of organic salmon and tuna or dressed Cornish crab with sun-blush tomato, basil and Avugra caviar.
Main courses also dip into the global melting pot for pan-fried fillet of sea bass with citrus gravy, artichokes and prawns or monkfish steamed in paper with ginger and spring onions. You can even get a simply grilled lemon sole, while meat-eaters might be assuaged by fillet of Angus beef with mixed peppercorns and grilled goats’ cheese. To finish, consider poached pears with Marsala and cinnamon or rosemary crème brûlée.
