Review on Chez Mal Brasserie at Malmaison London
Once a residence for nurses from St Bartholomew's Hospital, the London branch of the Malmaison hotel chain is an architecturally stunning building hidden away in a quiet cobbled courtyard off Charterhouse Square. It's an oasis of calm, just minutes from the Barbican.
Menus in the brasserie Chez Mal offer a mix of traditional steakhouse and classic French dishes along the lines of cured salmon with char-grilled fennel before rump of spring lamb with Puy lentils and jus vinaigrette or pan-fried sea trout with crushed peas and citrus dressing.
If you fancy something simpler, there might also be moules marinière or the Mal burger with homemade relish and fries, while desserts could range from baked white chocolate cheesecake with strachiatella ice cream to a renowned take on 'walnut whip'. Don't forget the highly popular Sunday brunch, which is packed with classics like eggs Benedict and corned beef hash.
