Review on The Draft House Northcote
On the busy Northcote Road, this was the first Draft House founded by Charlie McVeigh in 2009, now part of a small group of well regarded London based pubs. Featuring a large sweeping wood bar, with bright green chairs set against simply laid tables and vintage posters adorning the walls. Time Out named it their Number 1 Pub in London, a classic British pub serving gourmet pub food with 18 beers of tap and more than 50 bottled beers supplied from artisan breweries around the globe.
Ingredients are carefully selected for the menus along the lines of foot-long pork scratchings or Scotch egg with curried mayonnaise, followed by 28-day aged steaks from Speyside or the Yolk, 8oz Burger with flat fried egg and glazed hollandaise. Elsewhere you might see chill crab linguine or pork Schnitzel "Holstein" with fried egg, capers and potato salad. Desserts offer satisfaction with rhubarb fool paired with cream and shortbread or maybe a chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream. There is a fine international wine and whisky list or if you prefer each dish is matched on the menu with a beer or ale.
