Review on The Stonhouse
The Stonhouse is tucked away in a residential street a short stroll from Clapham Common, part of the Three Cheers group of pubs owned by local boys Mark Reynolds, Nick Fox and Tom Peake. Formerly known as The Windsor Arms it has been given a stylish make-over and boasts a roaring log fire in winter with smart sofas, as well as a heated beer garden.
Lunchtimes there are sandwiches, burgers and healthy salads on offer, with evening meals stepping up a gear. Look for hot smoked sea trout and courgette salad, toasted pine nuts, baby spinach, toast and sour cream which can be ordered as either a starter or main course or roasted beetroot and Rosary Ash Goat's Cheese and honey dressing. Main courses take in a selection of steaks, the pie of the day or maybe spit roast pork belly, crushed potato, and salsa verde. Desserts home in on the classics such as the popular sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream or strawberry and limoncello Pavlova.
The well-considered global wine list offers ample choice across the range, together with a selection of cocktails and their popular ale, Timothy Taylor is complemented by a regularly changing choice of guest ales and draught beers.
