Review on Foxlow

Huw Gott and Will Beckett the duo behind the critically acclaimed Hawksmoor steakhouses, opened their fifth venture in November 2013 in the premises formerly occupied by North Road in Clerkenwell. The interior has a simpler design compared to its siblings, with wooden tables and smart red and black leather banquettes overlooked by the open kitchen. With an intimate relaxed ambience, it is a convivial neighbourhood restaurant that will appeal to all-comers.

The menu showcases influences from Italy, Asia, America and the Middle East, with meat carefully sourced from ethically reared animals. This is their first restaurant to feature a salad bar, where there are choices such as lemon-roasted carrots and fennel and roast acorn squash with Moroccan spices. Elsewhere there are steaks using less known cuts such as Deckle supplied by The Ginger Pig or Pluma, a pork steak from an acorn fed pig supplied by Brindisa. When it comes to desserts there's cherry pie or maybe choose peanut butter and jelly from their selection of sundaes.

Foxlow features a well thought out wine list sourced from small growers and producers, with special wines featured monthly. There's an innovative cocktail list with the signature Smokestack Mary consisting of gin, tomato, chipotle, smoked paprika and peated Scotch.
