Review on Freemasons at Wiswell
The Freemasons at Wiswell is located in the picturesque tiny village of the same name, just south of Clitheroe in the stunning Ribble Valley. It re-opened in the summer of 2009 following a sympathetic restoration which has created a stylish décor with its flag stone floors, walls in muted heritage colours, antique rugs and furniture and period paintings and prints adorning the walls.
Chef patron is Blackburn born Steven Smith, who is one of the rising stars of the British restaurant scene having worked at several Michelin starred restaurants. The pub under his leadership has been the recipient of a number of awards including Best Newcomer at the Publican awards in April 2011, a Bib Gourmand in the prestigious Michelin Guide, and more recently three rosettes in the AA 2013 Restaurant Guide.
There is a choice of menus, the a la carte featuring many tried and tested favourites, a seasonal menu showcasing newer dishes that reflect the finest seasonal produce available and offers excellent value at lunch and early supper, a tasting menu where you can indulge in the full Freemasons menu experience, with seven small dishes that personify chef Steven Smith's work, as well as the popular Sunday lunch menu.
There is a splendid wine list featuring over 250 wines from around the world, as well as an excellent selection of traditional cask conditioned ales from award-winning independent breweries.
Freemasons at Wiswell is also featured in: Michelin Guide, Good Food Guide, Hardens, AA Guide
