Review on The Olde Post Inn
Since 1974, Cloverhill village post office has taken on a new role as a highly- sought-after country inn/restaurant. Gearóid and Tara Lynch run the place with bags of youthful enthusiasm and have retained the original rustic feel of the place, with its bare brick walls, old beams and sturdy wooden furniture.
The cooking has a strong European slant, although Irish produce is given plenty of exposure. A terrine of Clonakilty black and white pudding with apple compote appears as a starter alongside warm asparagus salad with asparagus and celeriac mousseline, while main courses might include fillet of beef with colcannon and roasted shallot jus or sea bass with julienne of green beans and courgettes.
'Le Coq Hardi' (stuffed chicken breast with an Irish whiskey sauce) tips its hat to the famous old Dublin restaurant, while desserts could poached pear with blancmange and passion fruit jus or warm fig tart with caramelised banana ice cream.
