Review on Pen-y-Bryn
It may look 'a bit like a medical centre', but this spacious 1970s bungalow with additions is in the business of dispensing good hospitality, food and drink rather than healthcare. Inside, it looks very handsome - a world away from the doctor's waiting room with its bookcases, open fires and old furniture. There's also a lovely garden and terrace with great views over the sea and the Great Orme.
If you fancy something light to eat, the kitchen can oblige all manner of sandwiches, plus the likes of Welsh rarebit with chutney and a poached egg, bowls of mussels or Chinese chicken pancakes with hoisin sauce. Otherwise, consider a starter of spiced potted crab or crispy roast duck and chorizo salad, before tackling braised shoulder of Welsh lamb, pot-roast pheasant, spicy beef curry or organic salmon with sweet potato mash and watercress sauce. For afters, perhaps strawberry cheesecake, chocolate brownie or bread-and-butter pudding with apricot sauce.
