Review on Isaacs Restaurant
Not to be confused with Isaacs Hotel next door, this veteran of the Cork restaurant scene occupies a stylishly converted eighteenth-century warehouse opposite the Everyman Theatre. Inside, it comes complete with tall brick arched windows, lofty ceilings and supporting pillars, while bold artwork adds a more contemporary note.
The kitchen is renowned for its brand of eclectic brasserie cooking based on sound Irish ingredients. Starters of Ardsallagh goats' cheese with roast beetroot, chickpeas and basil dressing or prawn tempura with spring onions, aubergines and soy dipping sauce give way to Thai green chicken curry, baked couscous with grilled Mediterranean vegetables and harissa or fishcakes with buttered spinach and hollandaise sauce.
To finish, there are sweet-toothed offerings such as pannacotta with blackberry and Sauternes compote or Greek yoghurt with honey and toasted hazelnuts. The concise wine lists zips around the globe in search of quality and value.
