Review on Jacques Restaurant
Opened in 1982 and rated as one of Cork’s longest-running restaurants, Jacques is an enduring local favourite renowned for its genuinely personable atmosphere and vivid modern food.
The owners have built up a thriving and reliable network of suppliers and producers over the years, and they continue to make good use of locally reared ducks, traceable beef and farmhouse cheeses. Influences from France and the Med show up frequently, witness dishes like Cashel Blue terrine with pear and walnut dressing, medallions of venison with peppercorn sauce, celeriac gratin and Brussels sprout purée or smoked haddock, crab and spinach cannelloni.
It’s also worth looking out for fish specials, such as scallops on lemon risotto with Parma ham or sea bream with tapenade, tomato, caper and watercress salsa. To conclude, try warm chocolate and hazelnut torte or lime and coconut parfait with pineapple carpaccio. ‘Early dinners’ are excellent value, and the well-spread wine global list features a smattering of reasonably priced organic bottles.
