Review on Wagamama
Like its siblings, the Cork branch of Wagamama promotes the notion of 'positive eating for positive living'. This chain of funky Japanese noodle bars is now an international brand peddling the idea of lifestyle nutrition, with outlets across the UK as well as franchises abroad.
There's no doubt that message comes through loud and clear in the packed dining room. Furnishings are strictly utilitarian, although much of the operation is high-tech (note the computerised order pads); there are no bookings (expect queues) and customers sit communally at canteen-style benches to quaff and slurp their way through the kitchen's output.
Three kinds of noodles soba, udon and ramen are the mainstays and they might be teppan-fried or added to soups with all manner of ingredients from honey-roast pork to grilled salmon. A few side orders such as yakitori and edamame beans flesh out the menu, along with katsu curries. Raw juices and green tea are the food's natural bedfellows, although sakι, beers and wine are also available.
